Notice of the Society of Caribbean Lawyers Annual General Meeting (“AGM”)
The Society of Caribbean Lawyers (“SOCAL”) AGM will be held on Monday 10 November 2025 at 6:30pm (UK time) at Octopus Energy, UK House, 164 - 182 Oxford Street, London, W1D 1NN and will also be broadcast live for you to join virtually. If you wish to join the meeting virtually, you will need to join via a link to be circulated to all registered attendees on the day of the AGM.
At the AGM we will provide a annual report, update SOCAL’s constitution and hold elections for our Steering Committee for the next term, therefore it is very important for you to attend.
Existing members of the Steering Committee are required to seek re-election to maintain their positions. If you are not currently a Steering Committee member but are interested in joining, please review the role descriptions below for consideration and complete this form.
The Steering Committee meets once per month for one hour, usually online. In addition to meetings, Steering Committee members can expect to spend an average of 4 hours per month on preparation, committee work and other responsibilities. The duration of the next Steering Committee term will be 12 - 15 months.

Steering Committee Role Descriptions
Chair
The Chair leads SOCAL’s meetings, provides strategic direction, and ensures effective governance to advance SOCAL’s mission.
Vice Chair
The Vice Chairperson supports the Chair in a leadership capacity and plays a key role in strategic planning, governance, and member engagement. They act as a deputy to the Chair and help ensure the smooth running of the organisation and delivery of its mission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supports the Chairperson in leadership and strategic decision-making
• Leads or co-leads key initiatives and sub-committees (e.g. events, mentorship, outreach)
• Steps in to lead meetings or represent the Society when the Chair is unavailable
• Engages with members and supports the work of the wider committee
• Promotes the Society’s mission and values across the legal community both in the UK and Caribbean
• Contributes to leadership development
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate records of meetings, handling correspondence, and providing administrative support to ensure smooth operations within SOCAL.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for managing the financial affairs of SOCAL and is responsible for organising, accounting and tracking payments due to or from SOCAL.
Community Liaison & Regional Division Officer(s)
The Community Liaison & Regional Division Officers will establish and maintain connections with various identified Caribbean community groups to foster collaboration and support for SOCAL’s initiatives. These roles will also involve overseeing and coordinating the activities and growth of SOCAL outside of London, ensuring alignment with our overarching mission and goals.
Events Officer(s)
The Events Officers plan and manage SOCAL events, ensuring they run smoothly and attract participation.
Memberships Officer
The Memberships Officer leads membership growth and engagement, ensuring members are supported to strengthen SOCAL’s community. During the upcoming term, the Memberships Officer will also establish SOCAL’s formal membership programme.
Publications Officer(s)
The Publications Officers create a monthly newsletter to keep our supporters informed and engaged with SOCAL’s activities.
Social Media Officer
The Social Media Officer is responsible for regularly posting/re-posting on platforms like LinkedIn, sharing our mission, and engaging with our members.
Special Initiatives Officer(s)
The Special Initiatives Officer will have responsibility for strategic outcomes and policy work within SOCAL, fostering engagement and driving impactful outcomes. This Officer will have responsibility for monitoring legal changes affecting Caribbean lawyers and the practice of law in the Caribbean and will be responsible for drafting statements, position papers and responding to green papers as appropriate.
Sponsorships Officer
The Sponsorships Officer is responsible for securing sponsorships and partnerships to support SOCAL’s initiatives and events.
Student Outreach Officer(s)
The Student Outreach Officers engage with students and universities to raise awareness about SOCAL’s mission and encourages their involvement in our initiatives. This role extends to our mentoring programme and to any law fairs that we may organise.
Web Officer
The Web Officer is responsible for updating our website with fresh content and managing our email account to ensure effective communication with our members.
